Joan Garcia-Porta, PhDI am an evolutionary biologist interested in understanding the ecological processes that produce and modulate phenotypic and species diversity. I study these processes in three general realms: (1) evolution of insular systems, (2) adaptation to climate and climate change and (3) the evolutionary consequences of innovations. I approach my research from a broad perspective, working at the interface between molecular phylogenetics, ecology, trait evolution and statistical modeling. More recently I started to incorporate genomics and transcriptomics in my toolbox, to explore the genetic/genomic underpinnings of adaptation and diversification at different evolutionary scales.
Aside of these main topics of research, I also apply my toolbox to solve complex taxonomical problems in multiple groups of organisms (integrative taxonomy). I am just starting my own lab in the department of Biodiversity, Ecology and Evolution at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain). More info about the scope and research in my lab soon!
